Private Training and Behavioural Consultations

Why Private Training?

There are many reasons why your dog may benefit from private one-on-one training. If you have a dog who is highly excitable, nervous or uncomfortable in the presence of unfamiliar dogs or people a class situation will most likely be far too stressful for your dog. In such circumstances, private training may be more appropriate - this will enable your dog to train in an environment that is less stressful which will be easier for both of you! Sometimes, private one-one-one training can help to prepare your dog to make the transition into a group class.

In today's world, we all live very busy and hectic lives and it may be the case that you are unable to attend group training classes or unable to attend on a regular basis. Private one-on-one training gives you the opportunity to train your dog at a time that is convenient for you. One of the other benefits of private training is that it may make it easier for the whole family to be involved in the training sessions.

Behavioural Consultations

If you have a particular training or behavioural issue, a private behavioural consultation can help in addressing the particular behaviour. Behavioural consultations can help with issues such as:

  • Jumping
  • Mouthing/Biting
  • Toilet Training
  • Resource guarding
  • Fearful/Timid behaviour
  • Nervousness with other dogs and/or people
  • Barking
  • Boredom
  • Destructive Behaviours (chewing, digging...)
  • Pulling on the lead
  • Fear of the vet
  • Fear of grooming

Referrals

I work with a wide range of animal care professionals such as veterinarians and veterinary behaviourists. Should the problem require referral to another professional I can arrange this and where appropriate and necessary, will work with other professionals in helping you with your training program.

Children and Dogs

As a mother of 2 young children myself, I understand that managing your dog with children can sometimes present particular challenges. Behavioural training can assist with not only existing problems, but also can be very important in helping you prepare your dog for the arrival of a new baby.

While it is wonderful for children to grow up with dogs, bringing a new puppy home can also pose particular challenges, especially if you have young children. Private in-home consultations can be extremely useful in helping ensure that everyone works together in teaching your new puppy - and where necessary teaching children how to behave appropriately with the puppy. Wherever appropriate I will involve children in the training program so that training becomes a family commitment.
